Can i run java android project on idx ?

Hello IDX community,

I’m currently working on a Java-based Android app and have been exploring different development environments. I’m intrigued by Project IDX’s features, especially the web previews and cloud-based nature. However, I haven’t found much information about using IDX specifically for Android projects.

My main questions are:

  • Can I import my existing Android project (built with Android Studio) into IDX?
  • Does IDX support the Android SDK and necessary tools for building and debugging Android apps?
  • Are there any limitations or specific considerations I should be aware of when working on Android projects in IDX?

Any experiences or guidance from the community would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Minh_Nguyen - no, you can’t open your Android project in IDX and have things just work. What you can do is use Android Studio on IDX in the near future and continue your Android development inside Android Studio itself, from your browser: Introducing new AI tools, more templates, and soon, Android Studio in-browser
